Most people in Broxbourne are fortunate enough never to have to experience homelessness, but for those who do it can be a very traumatic experience that is hard to escape from, damaging physical and emotional well-being.

From January 7th to March 3rd 2019, Churches Together across Broxbourne Borough hosted a Winter Night Shelter (WNS) pilot, with the intention of creating an ongoing WNS should the pilot prove successful and the demand sufficient. It ran with support from Housing Justice and with Broxbourne Council.

During the eight week duration of the pilot, guests were referred to the project by Broxbourne Council, and offered an evening meal, overnight accommodation and breakfast in a circuit of seven local churches, each of which was open on a different night of the week.

The project was staffed by volunteers from the local churches and wider community (there was no requirement to be a Christian to either attend or volunteer). It was overseen by a Core Steering Group, with each venue being organised by one or more Venue Coordinators. All volunteers have been trained.

The contact for our church is Natasha Appiah. Thank you Natasha for all your work at Elim Church!
